Hideous Kinky
Based on the book by Esther Freud, a woman takes her two children to Morocco in the 1970s looking for a Sufi guru to instruct her in the annihilation of the ego.
Hideous Kinky is one of those slice-of-life films that offers more to sociologists and future historians than to those simply seeking entertainment.
Our heroine and her children live hand-to-mouth, neglected by their stay-at-home family. They do not try to return to Britain, but instead hook up with locals. Mum is looking for spiritual awakening, the children are looking for a dependable home.
