Midsummer Night's Dream
An incredibly lavish, star-studded production of Shakespeare's play, this film is a reasonably colourful easy way for students to absorb one of the great playwrights.
Sometimes actors in British productions of Shakespeare rush the delivery as if the audience won't notice the iambic pentameter if the syllables are pushed together. A Yankee delivery of Shakespeare has a strange combination of pronunciation confusion that leaves the ears lagging behind the eyes.
The special effects, sets and costumes are superb, and there are occasional performances that surprise and delight (like TV's Calista Flockhart), but despite the gloss and glitter there's a hollowness when it's all said and done.
