20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (1954) movie review
How the Future Looked
When Jules Verne envisaged the future he extrapolated technology within a nineteenth century environment. Underwater breathing gear used giant sea shells and undersea ships were fitted with mighty musical organs and plush curtains.
Disney wisely stayed true to the idea, creating a colourful, fantastic world for Captain Nemo and his co-adventurers.
The result is, yes, very much according to the formula of Disney adventure movies of the period, and even uses actor popular in Disney and similar films. It is an innocuous way to pass the time and enjoy second-hand the wonderful imagination of the great master Jules Verne, seen through the glass of that other master storyteller -- Walt Disney.
