Roxanne (1987) movie review
Fire chief C. D. Bales (Steve Martin) is happy in his small town in Washington. He has a job he's good at, a best friend (Shelly Duvall), and plenty of interests. He also has an enormous nose and an allergy to anesthetics.
Yes, it's a reworking of Cyrano de Bergerac. The adorable hunk with the abbreviated IQ is Chris (Rick Rossovich), and the lovely Roxanne in this version is an astronomer on the verge of discovering a new comet (Daryl Hannah).
C.D. through crossed signals comes to believe that Roxanne cares for him, but when he finds her eye is on Chris, he is friend enough to speak to her hidden by the trees beneath her window.
It's an eccentric love story in a town of eccentrics, told with humour and compassion. A romantic comedy with a timeless love triangle.
