click to buy | Bridget Jones' DiaryThe iconic British anti-heroine, Bridget Jones (Renee Zellweger), is a chubby PR chick with verbal diareahha and a crush on her feckless boss (Hugh Grant). She is blessed with a Mummy and Daddy in the country and the trademark Richard Curtis (Four Weddings and a Funeral) group of eccentric good friends. On New Year's Eve our Bridget heads for home and her mother's annual Turkey Curry and mini gerkin bash. This year Mummy is setting up the 32-year-old with Mr Darcy (!), the ex-boy next door, now a proud, stiff, newly-divorced man (Colin Firth).

Movie Poster, Bridget Jones' Diary |
At her graceless worst, Bridget admits to overdrinking, oversmoking and makes a badly-dressed ass of herself. Then she has to hear herself summed up all too neatly. In the ensuing year, Bridget juggles jobs and affections in her search for love. Is there any doubt, Austen readers, with whom she'll end up?
Movie Poster, Bridget Jones' Diary The cast throw themselves into their roles, although Firth's part is a bit undernourished. All in all, not a bad way to spend an evening, although it won't exercise your brain cells or your compassion. |
