![]() | One word can change everything.Carl Allen (Jim Carrey) is a loan officer who has decided to coast through life, refusing offers from all and sundry. He's a nice bloke, but having been knocked to the floor by a divorce three years earlier, he has decided to just lay there. An encounter with a self-help guru (Terence Stamp) leaves him with a covenant - to say Yes! to whatever is offered to him. Almost immediately he meets a girl, he gets a promotion, and appears to be sucking the marrow of life. |

This being a Jim Carrey film, his attempts to avoid unpleasant situations, and his succumbing to them have equal opportunities for full-body comedy. Largely this film doesn't inflict raw slapstick on the audience, but there are a couple of seriously cringe-worthy moments. This isn't a deep movie, the message is short, simple, and requires no serious thought. It's USAmerican deep -- philosophy you could put on a bumper sticker or a T-shirt. If you're not very demanding of your movies, say "Yes" to Yes Man. |
