I Am Love (2009) movie review

Family and Love

space

Emma is the Russian-born wife of a wealthy Italian industrialist. The story opens on the snowy night of the family patriarch's birthday. That night a young chef who shared a winning race with Emma's son comes to the house.

Happy is a word that makes one sad.

I Am Love was seven years in the making and is edited equally slowly.

Although Emma's family experiences love and loss over the period of the film, the slowness of the film's delivery distances the audience from the characters. Giving the audience time to think gives them time to think about other things than the emotional lives of the characters.

Beautiful, yet cold, like the villa in a cold grey snow-covered night.
