Scream 4 (2011) movie review
Not a Scream, But a Whimper
With a cast seemingly picked at random from the street and a plot that somewhat resembles a year-8 student film, Scream 4 fails dismally to deliver. Not unlike the Saw series, the Scream series has grown painfully worse with each evolution. Scream 4 has followed this downward trajectory, further smearing the series' name.
As it strains to address the genre poles of comedy and horror, the film provides a watered-down excuse for both. It is neither convincing nor enjoyable. It does, however, gather pace from its dry and frustrating beginning, allowing for second thoughts as to whether one should leave the cinema just yet (of which many ignored and walked out).
Scream 4 takes lazy aim at its cult-fan following, figuring it is an easy target and will apparently lap up any garbage involving a figure in a ghost-face mask (proven by the tedious opening ten minutes of the film). It relies on hit-and-miss puns, gags and horror clichés that some may argue, is the unique and defining aspect of the films.
Scream 4 is a catastrophic waste of 100 odd minutes that stars a cast of 'actors' with more cleavage than talent.
