There was darkness.

When a woman loves a god ...

He can stand her up for months and she can't even get him on the phone. Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Jane (Natalie Portman) are reunited when the enemies of Thor's grandfather try to bring darkness back to the nine realms. In Asgard old adversaries the dark elves return and the mighty war between the worlds affects the others including Earth.

In THOR THE DARK WORLD Jane is faced with a dimensional anomaly, injured, and must be taken to Asgard to be healed. In the face of threats to Earth, Thor must help the imprisoned Loki (Tom Hiddleston) escape so that they can fight the forces of darkness. The film starts with a mythic battle and crosses between Britain and Asgard to follow the story of Jane's team and the Asgardians.

London-based Jane takes a break from awkward dating to investigate the strange phenomena with her intern and her intern's intern. The crazy reaction of the young scientists to the craziness make for the best scenes of the film. If dropping something down a stairwell makes it disappear, who wouldn't drop something down. Jane resists her intern's request to give up her shoe for experimentation, but it's not all fun.

Expect the usual bang, crash, fight scenes, daddy issues and Thor's continuing development from the original good-time egomanic expecting to be king to a good and humble man. Well, as humble as any god of thunder can be.

He gathers together his friends to defend the realm.

Success will bring us exile and failure shall mean our death.

The story races along nicely with lots of special effects, fight scenes, operatic music and all the trappings of Thor's part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). And for fun, watch for a quick cameo from Captain America.

It's all harmless action that won't tax your brain, but sometimes that's all that's required.
