The Wait aka L'attesa (2015) movie review
Two Women, One Man
Two women wait for a young man who will never arrive. Debut feature from Italian wunderkind Piero Messina, who previously worked as assistant director on Paolo Sorrentino's Oscar-winning The Great Beauty.
There are films that are called dramas, but they are more like explorations of an emotion or a situation.
The Wait is such a film. Anna (Juliette Binoche) is a grief stricken mother. When the girlfriend (Lou de Laâge) of her son arrives expecting to meet him, Anna does not tell the girl that he is not coming.
The result is a beautifully performed situation with a gentle tension.
Awards: Festival du Film Italien de Villerupt Amilcar de la critique, 72 Venice International Film Festival Special Mention FEDIC, Special Mention SIGNIS, Leoncino d'Oro Agiscuola award (Student's prize).
