True Lies (1994) movie review
Do you ever get the feeling that your spouse is lying to you? Well, maybe not lying to you, maybe that your spouse is just too boring to be lying to you?
Harry and Helen Tasker (Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jamie Lee Curtis) are average Americans. She's a legal secretary who is thinking about having an affair, but not really. And he is a computer software salesman, but not really. Their happy, but dull, home life is about to be blasted away by terrorists, spies, guns, helicopters and really big explosions.
James Cameron's screenplay (based on La Totale! by Claude Zidi, Simon Michael and Didier Kaminka) is a fast-paced romp, full of action and adventure in the best way. There is humour and human emotions balanced with some extremely adventurous special effects that involve not just the Taskers, his best friend (Tom Arnold), but their teenage daughter (Eliza Dushku).
Happy ever after for this family isn't going to be average, it isn't going to be dull, it isn't going to revolve around conversations about the plumber, and getting there is the best bit.
Recommended.
