Notting Hill movie review
A famous and beautiful American film star meets an ordinary book shop owner from Notting Hill. Is there a future for them amid the paparazzi, the hollywood machine, and his friends?
Writer Richard Curtis established an international reputation as a romantic comedy scripter with Four Weddings and a Funeral. Expectations were high for this pairing of Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant.
Sadly the result is ordinary. Notting Hill has a similar set of characters -- the beautiful inaccessible American, the bumbling, awkward Brit, the quirky friends, but the movie just doesn't fly.
It's not a complete flop, but with such high expectations, we feel as if it's one.
