The Third Miracle (1999) movie review
Making Saints
A priest is brought back into the fold in order to investigate the life and alleged miracles of a simple woman who died in the United States after a varied life.
Told partly in flashbacks, The Third Miracle brings together several different people and their stories.
Frank Shore (Ed Harris) has debunked miracles in the past. He is brought back by his politically astute bishop to examine once again the miraculous. He is questioning his own faith even as his role is to debunk the faith of others. Roxanne (Heche) is the daughter whose mother deserted her to serve the church. Werner (Armin Mueller-Stahl) is the aristocratic churchman who resists the thought of a common person being raised to sainthood.
The Third Miracle is not a religious movie, it is a human movie -- a movie about human need and frailties. Well-paced, beautifully photographed and gracefully performed.
Well worth a look or two.
