The Rainmaker movie review
The Rainmaker

This film is set in Reggie Love country, and I couldn't help thinking, "Is this another series here?"

This film is classic, perhaps formula, Grisham. It has the underdog, idealistic lawyer, the big bad corporate lawyers, the greedy insurance company (corporate America), and the poor, dying folk.

The characters are nicely drawn, and acted by experienced people. Jon Voigt is the arrogant corporate lawyer who introduces the young lad to the bar. Dean Stockwell has fun playing the judge who swears him in. Matt Damon is a little too withdrawn in his role, but who wouldn't be working with Coppola and De Vito (wonderful and the would-be lawyer who can't pass the bar exam), and Mickey Rourke (whose costumes have to be seen to be believed).

The ending is a shock, leaving us dissatisfied, but perhaps that's what Grisham wanted us to feel.
