Message in a Bottle
A lonely love letter in a bottle washes up on the shore and a female reporter (Robin Wright) embarks on an investigation. She publishes her story and discovers that someone is throwing letters into the ocean, and she begins to collect them. Eventually she seeks out the writer of these letters, a widower (Kevin Costner) still living in his cottage by the sea with his dead wife's things.

Movie Poster, Message in a Bottle |
Message in a Bottle is an unabashed love story, but it is the story of many loves. The love lost, new love found, the love of a father (Paul Newman) for his son, the grieving love of the wife's family. The story holds up remarkably well when it could easily drown in its own emotions. The performances are low-key, and the film moves along at a reasonable pace. Not great art or the stuff to make one think profoundly, but a nice story and an unpretentious film. by Ali Kayn
