ElectionA high school student counsellor Jim McAllister (Matthew Broderick) decides to interfere in the student elections to stymie an overachieving student Tracy Flick (Reese Witherspoon). A satirical comedy. The MTV film is not, as one might expect from its timing and trailers, as much a satire on the US political system as an exploration of certain human drives. The determined Ms Flick is campaigning in her high school elections, encouraged by her ambitious mother (Colleen Camp). |

McAllister is offended by Tracy's egotistical scheming, partly because this Lolita was responsible for the downfall of a friend and fellow teacher.
The last moments of the film, with their reference to a contemporary political scandal have a nice kick. |
