click to buy | Along Came a SpiderA frustrating adaptation of James Patterson's crime novel starring Morgan Freeman as Dr Alex Cross, asked to investigate the kidnapping of a school young girl by the kidnapper himself. Still chastising himself over the recent death of his police partner Cross is reluctant to take the case, but being a renowned criminal profiler, can't refuse a chance to unravel a crazed mind.Joining Cross on the hunt is wintry secret agent Jezzie Flannagan, (Monica Potter) disgraced after failing in her job to protect the daughter of a wealthy senator (Mika Boorem) and determined to win back her own self confidence. |

Cross begins playing a preposterous treasure hunt with the disturbed teacher, Mr Gary Soneji (Michael Wincott) involving shoes, phone calls, shot guns and double identities threatening the lives of more than one girl. Wincott crafts a vulnerable kidnapper in Soneji, whose main concern is to impress Cross with his warped actions, best displayed in the relationship with the young son of the Russian president (Anton Yelchin). The plot skids out of control towards the film's climax, presenting situations and explanations that disturbed minds wouldn't accept, even with the unfaltering performance of Morgan Freeman. Director Lee Tamahoshi (Once Were Warriors) has some creative spurts in the film's opening credits, and some cat and mouse chase scenes between Cross and Soneji guarantee some breath holds, but overall Hollywood stereotypes prevail |
