Kiss of the Dragon

Jet Li returns to the screen in a story of his own devising (co-written by Robert Mark Kamen and Luc Bresson of Fifth Element fame).

A Chinese police inspector, Liu Jiuan, arrives in Paris to take part in a joint undercover operation with a French team led by the brutal Richard (Tcheky Karyo). It all goes wrong when the target killed and our hero implicated.

He flees to a Chinese safe house where he encounters the American "street walker with a heart of gold", (Bridget Fonda).

As an added bonus, Liu Jiuan is not just a master police operative and a superlative martial artist -- he is a swift accupuncturist who uses needles to subdue his enemies. It all leads up to the moment when he demonstrates the Kiss of the Dragon.

Okay. It's a martial arts movie with Parisian life as the background, the usual cliches, lifted by the combination of Asian martial arts, American cinematic glitz and French style.

Capsule: A Chinese Intelligence Officer (Jet Li) goes to Paris on assignment and becomes embroiled in a deadly conspiracy. Directed by Fifth Element's Luc Besson.

Good for buffs, okay for a night out, nothing for the "serious" cinema goer.
