Aeon Flux(2005) movie review
Infinite Future
In a utopian city, where technology is a based on biological forms and people can modify themselves, not everyone is content.
Aeon is a member of the subversive element, a woman of extraordinary skills who has been chosen to assassinate the allegedly benevolent dictator.
Based on the popular animated series devised by Peter Chung, Aeon Flux is a beautifully-conceived science fiction tale of survival and consequences.
Charlize Theron and Sophie Okonedo bring an extraordinary level of gymnastic style to their caper scenes and a joy to watch. Their fight training and the choreography are typical of the attention to detail in this production.
The Perfect World Meets the Perfect Assassin
Making live action films of animated series, comics and graphic novels is a popular pastime in Hollywood. Kudos to the producers who have interpreted the avant garde animated series with intelligence, not reducing it to just another superhero flick.
A notable cast performs their roles with elegant conviction, aided by a script that matches action, speed and convincing character motivation.
Wonderful to look at, great fun to watch and challenging without being didactic Aeon Flux is a Festivale recommendation.
