Just Like Heaven movie review
Elizabeth (Reese Witherspoon) is a doctor working impossible hours hoping for a spot in her San Francisco hospital. David (Mark Ruffalo) is a depressed landscape architect who serendipitously finds a furnished apartment with a couch that seems perfect for him to indulge in -- until Elizabeth turns up.
It's Elizabeth's apartment. It's Elizabeth's stuff. But it's not Elizabeth's life. Not when she can walk through furniture and she can't remember who she is or what happened to her.
David calls in all kinds of 'ghostbusters' to rid him of Elizabeth's presence.
He confides in his best friend Jack (Donal Logue), who is glad that David is seeing someone. So David and Elizabeth embark on an investigation together to discover who she is and what happened to her, and why she doesn't feel dead.
Just Like Heaven is a charming love story of star-crossed lovers. It is peopled with the odd (Jack) and the very human (Elizabeth's family). It is the story of how two lost people can find themselves.
Just Like Heaven is a comedy, and a mystery. It is engaging and set in a really nice apartment. It also provokes discussion, when all is said and done. And that's the best kind of film of all -- entertaining with a little something extra.
Recommended.
