License to Wed movie review
A young couple, wanting to marry in his church, must first run the gauntlet of Reverend Frank's (Robin Williams) marriage preparation course.
This film has two heavy burdens to bear, the first and most obvious is Robin Williams' film career. License to Wed is about the outrageous, illegal and close-to-vindictive things a preacher does to potential married couples. Williams has the opportunity to behave extremely, but his character lacks true depth and is the bete noire of the film.
Second, this is yet another Baptist Bible Class prize story. Religious subtext really should be part of the film classification system. This one isn't too extreme, but it's unmissable.
A harmless film, License to Wed is almost something to pass the time, but don't mistake it for a genuine insightful comedy, or a class slapstick piece. It goes from start to finish at a fair pace, but offers nothing new or rare to the audience.
For die-hard fans only.
