He's Just Not That Into You (2009) movie review
Dating in the Shallow End of the Gene Pool
He does it because he likes you.
GG is a girl. She's not a teenager, she's holding a grownup job and not living at home, but she is stuck in the playground when it comes to the opposite sex.
GG has a drink with a man and is imagining weddings. She stalks, she cyberstalks, she accidentally hunts down men in their favourite hang outs, and she's not alone.
GG and her friends are codependent. They are stuck in the cowardly niceness of compulsively lying to one another. It's not ok to chase a married man, except for exceptions to the rule. A man doesn't married his cohabiting partner after 13 years except in exceptions to the rule. These women, and the men they know are so fixated on finding their soulmates that they have no lives.
Are you the exception...or the rule?
A guy ... will make it happen.
GG is lucky in that she meets her dating guru. He's a bar manager who's seen it all and is not afraid to call it. "If a man behaves like a sh*t, he is a sh*t"."
More a tragedy than a comedy, He's Just Not That Into You is two hours of delusional behaviour that may reflect accurately the dating and post-dating scene in the U.S.A., but it makes one wonder just how much more productive and interesting the United States would be if people would use their brain cells for good instead of dating.
Maybe the happy ending is ...
