Grace of Monaco (2014) movie review
All That Glitters ...
Based on a true story. Sigh. A fictionalised account. Oh dear.
Inspired by the life and times of Grace Kelly, aka Princess Grace of Monaco, this film is about an actress who marries the ruler of a minor principality only to find, shock, that she's not well respected and that politics looms over her family.
If you want to find out more about Grace Kelly, this is not the place to go. If you want to watch a relatively harmless film about an actress who marries 'well' and lives to find that it's not a fairy tale, then this may satisfy you.
Nicole Kidman as Grace Kelly is lovely, but her soft voice does nothing to portray the yankee edge that we heard and saw in films like It Takes a Thief.
This is a lightweight film, and if you want to watch a woman 'fight for her family' by learning French and court etiquette, then by all means go. Something like human drama, but not heart-wrenching or dramatic.
