Obsession in Death (2015) book review

The Past in Death

book cover, Obsession in Death by J D Robb, Festivale book review; 310

Obsession in Death by J. D. Robb (Nora Roberts) (2015), 405p, G.P. Putnam's Sons, kindle, $10.49; h/c $16.77

Eve Dallas is back for the 50th story, and this time she is dealing with an obsessive killer.

Homicide detective Eve Dallas, billionaire husband and former criminal Roarke, together with her partner and friends are racing against the clock at the end of 2060. In this novel, Robb (Roberts) brings together the usual friends and co-workers and ties the story to crimes in past stories.

A treasure trove of memories for the fans, and a textured introduction for new readers, Obsession in Death is the usual combination of futuristic details, criminal investigation and the continuing lives and histories of the characters.

A particular joy for the English speakers amongst us is a remarkably clean edit this time, with only one peculiarity - decimate for dessicate.

All-in-all it's a solid read, set in a detailed environment, peopled with characters that we can care about.
