The Thin Red Line
War ain't fun.
Just in case you thought it was (and there are some thoughtless individuals who do), this film is a long-winded discussion on the subject.
Our motley group of war attendees walk through this film demonstrating why the cardinal rule in film is "Show it, don't say it."
Characters, one after another, talk about their history, their motivations, their feelings. Now, while sometimes this kind of introspective stroll through the characters' psyche may make for award-winning literature, it isn't compelling cinema.
The film attracted a number of men who are usually interested in the quirky indie films (especially Cusack), the dialogue has that slow rhythm of bad theatre.
As an anti-war statement, this one says, "Don't go to war, it's dull." |
