Fame (1980) movie review
This Film Could Live Forever
A new class is beginning at the New York High School of the Performing Arts. From their auditions to their graduation we follow the highs, lows, successes and mistakes that they cram into their high school years.
One of the beacons of the 1980s, Fame is peopled by characters with universal concerns, not just about becoming famous, but about surviving and finding love.
Fame is a musical in the tradition of "let's put on a show!". The production numbers are a combination of rehearsals, performances and iconic 'spontaneous' moments including dancing in the streets and jamming in the cafeteria -- famous sequences in themselves.
The setting is dark and dingy, the storylines are a mix of heartening and tragic, like life the school years are angst punctuated by moments of glory and hope.
