Finding Forrester movie review
Jamal Wallace (Rob Brown) is just another kid in a poor neighbourhood with a facility for basketball and a backpack full of stories. After he scores well in an exam (and shows well on the basketball court) he is offered a position at a prestigious school. There he rapidly realises that he has been assigned the role of jock and that his good grades are being seen as suspect.
Meanwhile, on a bet he breeches the privacy of a local recluse and discovers that the man is William Forrester (Sean Connery), a famous and influential author. Forrester has returned the lost backpack with the stories edited and thus begins a mentoring relationship.
Finding Forrester follows the streams of Jamal's school experiences and his relationship with Forrester and how it challenges them both.
Anna Paquin does her usual charming job as Jamal's new friend at the school. Sound a bit like Good Will Hunting? well Matt Damon makes an appearance, just to play with that.
Ultimately the two men must find their own futures through their writing and through the challenges of their friendship.
