Accidental Husband (2008) movie review
Psychologist Advise Thyself
Doctor Emma Lloyd is the prophet of R.E.A.L. love. Sensible, balanced, considered, love.
Sofia is one of many who listen to Emma and one morning while watching her fireman-fiance Patrick (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) wrestling on a muddy soccer field, Sofia decides to walk away from Patrick and her upcoming nuptials.
Patrick's response is quick and, with the help of a hacker friend, explosive. The pair create a false record of marriage between Patrick and Dr Lloyd, something she discovers when she and her own fiance Richard (Colin Firth) apply for a marriage licence.
Falling in love... even the expert is confused.
Like the earlier movie Overboard this is marriage as revenge. In the Hawn-Russell movie, his revenge demanded a wealthy woman's pride to be crushed by housework while she worked off a debt.
In Accidental Husband our anti-hero Patrick is out to cause pain. He considers Dr Lloyd's influences to be foul, without thought to whether he and Sofia should have been married, and especially without thinking about whether he is mature enough for marriage.
It's cross and double-cross as Emma tries to get reams of annulment papers signed and Patrick finds himself saving Patrick's business while charming Emma and her fiance's business associates.
Excellent moments throughout, obvious plot, but enjoyable entertainment.
