Matrix Resurrections (2021) movie review
Loop. Repeat.
Mr Anderson is now living in reality, or is he? What is happening in the code? It felt real. But was it?
Ideas are the new sexy.
Remember TOTAL RECALL? This is the best mind f**k yet.
Mr Anderson, famous developer of the game THE MATRIX is having a crisis of reality. Is he a suicidal game developer with a crush on a married woman, or did he die, or, is the game still running?
Am I crazy? We don't use that word in here.
This new addition to the Matrix is an opportunity for Lana Wachowski to mess with the heads of the audience. It is also an opportunity to showcase the latest computer graphics. THE MATRIX RESURRECTIONS is consumed with questions. The setup has Anderson/Neo spinning, and with him, the audience. Like THE GAME, THE MATRIX RESURRECTIONS is a race between the writers and the audience to solve the question of what is reality.
The problem with THE MATRIX RESURRECTIONS is that there is so much spinning and misdirections, and gobs of explanations, that the notion of storytelling gets lost.
How am I doing? I don't know. I don't even know how to know.
This is a difficult film to watch, and more so to evaluate. It has been so long since the original trilogy that perhaps one should rewatch those films. But will that make this new episode comprehensible, or an unnecessary complication? Only you can decide if it is worth following the white rabbit again.
