La La Land (2016) movie review
Is it just a really long pun?
La La Land is a musical.
(Still there?)
An aspiring actress (in LA!!) meets a jazz musician and songs ensue.
(La la - musical - get it?)
Described by its distributors as "a treasure for the ages".
There is very little in this movie's script. It's just setups to get the actors from one number to another. On the other hand, as a soundtrack, it's bright and breezy with great piano parts. And it looks like a beautiful animated film, all bright colours and flatness.
"I'm a phoenix rising from the ashes."
A waste of Ryan Gosling and the rest of the cast when it comes to opportunities to act, this film flames out never to rise again. Buy the soundtrack. Get the DVD and fast-forward through the spoken lines.
Flat.
[2022-06] Winner of 6 Academy Awards including Best Director. What can I say, Hollywood likes watching Hollywood on screen.
