Something's Gotta Give (2003) movie review
Love and the Escape Artist
Schmucks are people, too.
Erica (Diane Keaton) is a successful, divorced, writer-of-a-certain age whose adult daughter is dating Harry The Escape Artist (Jack Nicholson), a 63-year-old bachelor who never dates anyone near A Certain Age. When they all arrive at her beach house she is called in to save him with C.P.R. and then to play host to him as he recuperates close to the hospital and his 36-year-old doctor (Keanu Reeves). The young doctor is both a fan and a personal admirer of Erica and as a friendship grows between Erica and Harry they form an unlikely romantic triangle.
Something's Gotta Give is Nancy Meyers at full strength - insightful, funny, and well-paced. She manages clever characterisation of individuals while giving their highs and lows a universality that makes them interesting and pertinent to a broader audience.
Beautiful to look at, amusing and thoughtful to watch, this film is a benchmark in the so-called romantic comedy genre.
