Kerry Greenwood
Phryne Fisher Jazz Age Detective
The Phryne Fisher series is set in Jazz Age Melbourne. Phryne is a rich, intelligent, daring, beautiful young woman with a hungry past.
Her pals include a couple of borderline-criminal red taxi drivers, an aviatrix, a doctor working at the Queen Victoria hospital (one of the few places that would accept a female doctor), her maid Dot, and a series of pretty (male human) pets. As the series progresses she acquires a couple of foster daughters who spend most of their time at school.
The quick-witted and glamorous Phryne is modelled on Kerry's own sister, at least in her appearance. Her adventures are fast-paced, bright, and take place in early twentieth century Melbourne and Paris.
"If she's a flapper," mused the sergeant, wiping Passionate Rouge lipstick off his blameless mouth, "then I'm all for 'em, and I don't care what Mum says."
